Preview and tips for Saturday May 12th
Posted on May 11, 2012Ascot’s Victoria Cup and Classic Trials at Lingfield
The highlights this weekend include Ascot’s Victoria Cup and Classic Trials at Lingfield.
The Betfred Victoria Cup 3.25pm, which is the centre piece of Ascot’s card this Saturday, is always one of the most competitive 7f handicaps of the season. The draw could be important with high numbers the most likely to be favoured in the current soft ground but that is not guaranteed to be the case and, with decent odds assured, it”s best to have one horse running for you on each side of the track.
Kevin Ryan’s Lightning Cloud improved throughout last season and there’s every chance the grey will progress again this term. Lightning Cloud is berthed in stall 15 of the 24 runner field, he’s run well on softish going at Ascot before and his lack of a run this year shouldn’t be a problem as he won first time out last season.
Of those drawn low, Tariq Too, who won in very good style on his reappearance this year at Thirsk and is in stall 4, makes most appeal to Free Racing Info.
Moone’s My Name was handed a 9lb rise in her rating for her easy success at Windsor last month but she still looks the one to beat in the Bovis Fillies Handicap 2.40pm. Ralph Beckett’s four-year-old will be running on soft going for the first time but she should act in the ground based on her pedigree.
Lingfield’s Classic trials are being run on the Polytrack as the turf course is so wet. The all-weather surface shouldn’t inconvenience William Haggas’s filly Vow in the Betfred “The Bonus King” Oaks Trial 2.40pm. The daughter of Derby winner Motivator ran on really well to win a strongly contested maiden at Newbury on her debut last month and it seems significant that Johnny Murtagh, who rode her that day, renews the association and Vow is his only booked mount of the day at Lingfield.
The Betfred Derby Trial 3.10pm is best left to John Gosden’s Shantaram, who’s been touched off in photo-finishes on both his starts to date. The form of the Newmarket maiden he was second to Model Pupil in at Newmarket last month has been franked several times, including by the winner who went close in the Chester Vase this week.
Chachamaidee can get punters at Lingfield off to a good start in the Betfred Mobile Chartwell Fillies Stakes 2.10pm. Sir Henry Cecil’s mare is a very talented individual and has won on her seasonal bow in each of her three previous seasons.
The confirmed Free Racing Info tips and suggested staked for Saturday May 12th.
2.50pm Ascot – Moone’s My Name – 1 point win
3.25pm Ascot – Tariq Too – 1 point win
3.25pm Ascot – Lightning Cloud – 1 point win
2.10pm Lingfield – Chachamaidee – 1 point win
2.40pm Lingfield – Vow – 1 point win
3.10pm Lingfield – Shantaram – 1 point win
3.40pm Haydock Park – Makbullet – 1 point each-way
Preview & tips for Newmarket Saturday & Sunday May 5th & 6th
Posted on May 02, 2012The Qipco 2,000 and 1,000 Guineas
The first Classics of the season, the Qipco 2,000 & 1,000 Guineas will be run at Newmarket on Saturday and Sunday.
Aidan O’Brien’s Camelot has dominated the betting for the 2,000 Guineas ever since cruising home a hugely impressive winner of the Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster last October.
Camelot has yet to race in the soft ground he will encounter at Newmarket this weekend. However, his breeding suggests he will handle cit in the ground and there little doubt he’s held in the highest regard by the most powerful stable in the world.
O’Brien is also running Power and Furner’s Green. The first named was a top class two-year-old while the latter looked to be improving when landing the 2,000 Guineas Trial at Leopardstown last month.
John Oxx’s Born To Sea, who won at The Curragh last September on his debut and but was found to be lame when beaten at Leopardstown on his only start the following month, is a fascinating runner.
Born To Sea is untested in top company but he has a fabulous pedigree and Oxx is a master of his profession withs an exceptional record in Britain.
The first three home at Maison-Laffitte in last month’s Prix Djebel, French Fifteen, Abtaal and Hermival, are dangerous challengers from France. They are all unexposed and potentially top class.
Trumpet Major has the best recent form of the home runners and Richard Hannon’s Craven Stakes should go well as could Hannon’s other runner, Bronterre. The Oasis Dream colt was a disappointing third in the Greenham but things didn’t go his way at Newbury and he’s capable of much better. Bronterre is a lively outsider.
Roger Charlton’s Top Offer won a Newbury maiden last year on his only start to date. Connections hold him in very high regard and it would be dangerous to underestimate him carrying the same colours as last year’s winner Frankel.
Aidan O’Brien’s Maybe is solid favourite for the 1,000 Guineas and deservedly so. She was unbeaten in five juvenile starts and, being by Galileo out of a Dainhill mare, is bred to be even better as a three-year-old.
Godolphin’s Lyric Of Light and Discourse represent last year’s winning connections and have to respected while
Ralph Beckett’s Moonstone Magic, who will love the expected cut in the ground, has been supplemented for the race after her fine win in Newbury Fred Darling Stakes.
John Gosden’s The Fugue and William Haggas’s Diala showed bags of promise as juveniles and could be anything for their top trainers.
The FreeRacing.Info tips and stakes for Newmarket’s Classic weekend meeting
Saturday 5th May
2.30pm Newmarket – Meandre – 1 point win
3.15pm Newmaket – Born To Sea – 1 point each-way
3.15pm Newmarket – Bronterre – 0.5 point each-way
4.20pm Newmarket – Personal Touch – 1 point win
Sunday 6th May
2.05pm Newmarket – Local Hero – I point win

Preview and Tips for Saturday April 28th
Posted on April 25, 2012top class racing action on Saturday

Sandown Park is the place to go for top class racing action on Saturday.
There’s two Group 3 races on the level and the last big races of the 2011/12 jumps season.
The Bet365 Classic Trial 3.45pm is the first of the Group 3 races and Sir Henry Cecil’s three-year-old Stipulate is guaranteed a strong following following his impressive victory in the Fielden Stakes last week at Newmarket. Richard Hannon’s Rougemont, who recorded a good time when landing the big sales race at the same Newmarket meeting on his seasonal bow must be respected. Other promising colts to keep an eye on in what could be a very informative contest are John Gosden’s Thought Worthy and Aidan O’Brien’s Imperial Monarch.
Sir Henry Cecil’s Eclipse and Champion Stakes winner Twice Over and John Gosden’s French Derby fourth Colombian head the entries for the the Bet365 Gordon Richards Stakes 4.20pm.
The Poker at Bet365,com Handicap 4.50pm and the Casino at Bet365.com Flat v Jump Jockeys Handicap 5.20pm complete the Flat action. They will both be very competitive heats but Qaraaba in the first race and South Cape in the second are worthy of consideration.
The Bet365 Josh Gifford Memorial Handicap Hurdle 1.30pm kicks off the action at Sandown Park. Nicky Henderson’s French recruit Tom Du Lys could make his British debut in this four-year-old contest and could go well. He showed decent form in France and is just the type the Seven Barrows trainer does so well with.
Henderson will also be hoping for a good run from Gibb River in the Bet365 Handicap Hurdle 2.00pm. The chestnut gelding stayed on steadily when third at Ainteee in a 2m110yds handicap last time and moving up to 2m3f110yds could help at a track he’s run well at before.
The novice Sanctuaire is an interesting contender for the Bet365 Celebration Chase 2.35pm. Paul Nicholls’ French-bred lacks experience but has taken very well to fences. Philip Hobbs’ Wishfull Thinking, who returned to form at the recent Grand National fixture with an excellent second to champion chaser Finain’s Rainbow, will probably have to be in the same mood to prevail.
Tidal Bay has to hump top weight of 11st12lb in the Bet365 Gold Cup 3.10pm but Free Racing Info beleives he is well worth considering as he’s down to his lowest handicap rating for several years and will be taking on a lower class of rival than he usually does.
The expected testing ground will not bother Tidal Bay and he’s worth an each-way punt despite his suspect enthusiasm.
The free Racing Info tips and stakes for Saturday 28th April.
1.30pm Sandown – Tom Du Lys – 1 point win
2.00pm Sandown – Gibb River – 1 point win
3.15pm Sandown – Tidal Bay – 2 points each-way
3.45pm Sandown – Colombian – 1 point win
Preview and tips for Saturday April 21st
Posted on April 18, 2012Key Trials and Scottish Grand National
The Group 3 Dubai Duty Free Fred Darling Stakes 2.35pm at Newbury on Saturday is one of the key trials for the Qipco 1,000 Guineas. The unbeaten Fillies’ Mile winner Lyric Of Light representing Godoplphin and the Richard Hannon-trained Best Terms, who won Royal Ascot’s Queen Mary Stakes and the Lowther Stakes at York last summer, showed the best form of the likely participants last season. The first named had the most scope but Hannon reports that Best Terms has done well over the winter. Free Racing Info will sit on the fence here as backing three-year-old fillies at short prices this early in the season is very risky as you can never guarantee they will have trained on. Scroll down for Saturday’s tips.
Colts tend to train on better and some will improve significantly from two to three. Top Offer and Tales Of Grimm, who won divisions of the same 7f maiden at Newbury in August last year on their only outings so far, are potential big improvers in the AON Greenham Stakes 3.10pm.
Both may well develop into high class performers but, until they shown they have made the leap from maiden to Group company, it makes sense to side with proven class of Bronterre. Richard Hannon’s colt was beaten just over a length when fourth in the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket in October on his final start last term.
The Dubai Duty Free Finest Surprise John Porter Stakes 2.00pm should be up its usual high standard with the likes of John Gosden’s 2010 St Leger winner Arctic Cosmos and Sir Michael Stoute’s four-year-old Fiorente, who promises to bloom this season taking part.
The Godolphin team’s lightly-raced Sadeek’s Song will be stepping up in class but he beat some useful types in good style at Leicester in October on his fourth and latest start and has abundant potential.
The Berry Bros & Rudd Magnum Spring Cup 3.45pm will be a typically ultra competitive mile handicap but Andrew Balding’s five-year-old Highland Knight should go well as he should be spot on after finishing third at Kempton two weeks ago on his seasonal return.
The Sir Henry Cecil King Of Dudes, who boast entries in the Dante and the English and Irish Derbies is the type to go well in the Bathwick Tyres Maiden Stakes 4.20pm.
Ayr’s Coral Scottish Grand National 3.25pm is the highlight for jump racing fans on Saturday. Cheltenham runner-ups Fruity O’Rooney and Harry The Viking are worthy contenders but Henry Daley’s unexposed grey eight-year-old Quentin Collognes – available at 20-1 at time of writing – looks the best each-way value off a light weight at a course that should suit him ideally.
The revised Free Racing Info selections and stakes for Saturday 21st April.
3.45 Newbury – Highland Knight – 1 point e-w
4.20 Newbury – King Of Dudes – 2 points win
5.25 Newbury – McBirney – 2 points e-w
3.25 Ayr – Quenton Collognes – 1 point e-w
Preview and Tips for the Grand National Aintree Saturday
Posted on April 10, 2012Preview and Tips for the Grand National Aintree Saturday
Free Racing Info thinks there is a good chance that Neptune Collognes could become the first grey to win the Grand National since Nicholas Silver in 1961.
Paul Nicholls’ gelding is an 11-year-old veteran but he retains his form and enthusiasm and has run crackers when staying on strongly to be second on his last two starts in well contested long distance chases.
Top weight Synchronised is likely to start favourite and, provided his often less than fluent jumping holds up, he could make history by becoming the first horse since Golden Miller in 1934 to win the Gold Cup and National back to back in the same season.
Last year’s winner Ballabriggs could easily go well for Donald McCain despite being 10lb higher in the handicap this time.
On His Own, ridden by Ruby Walsh and trained by Willie Mullins, has major claims as does Royal Ascot and Cheltenham Festival scorer Junior for David Pipe, who saddled Comply Or Die to win in 2008.
Alan King’s Becher Chase winner West End Rocker, Evan Williams’ Cappa Bleu, who won the 2009 Cheltenham Foxhunters Chase and Victor Dartnall’s well handicapped dual Welsh National runner-up Giles Cross are all perfectly feasible winners.
However, Free Racing Info thinks this could quite possibly be the year of the first female ridden winner with top class Irish jockeys Nina Carberry riding last year’s Irish National winner Organisedconfusion for her uncle Arthur Moore, who assisted his father, Dan, when L’Escagot won in 1975 and Katie Walsh on the prolific winner Seabass trained by her father Ted who won 11 years ago with Papillon.
Willie Mullins’ Quiscover Fontaine is another worth backing as he is weighted to finish close to Organisedconfusion having been fourth in the Irish National, beaten 10l, on a stone worse terms on the only occasion he’s had a test of stamina.
Free Racing Info suggest covering the John Smith’s Grand National 4.15 at Aintree on Saturday with a portfolio of 4 horses.
1 point each-way NEPTUNE COLLOGNES
2 points each-way ORGANISEDCONFUSION
1 point each-way SEABASS
1 point each-way QUISCOVER FONTAINE
Preview and tips for Saturday April 7th
Posted on April 03, 2012Easter Holiday racing at Kempton and Haydock
The Easter Holiday racing at Kempton and Haydock looks like being very competitive with big entries for all the races at both tracks.
There’s also some good class racing in prospect in Ireland at Fairyhouse on Sunday and Monday with the Irish Grand National on Easter Monday the highlight.
Kempton’s feature race is the Queen’s Prize 3.15pm and it promises to be one of the most strongly contested runnings of the 2m handicap for many years.
Gordon Carter Stakes victor Thimaar (pictured) and the hat-trick seeking Rasheed give Newmarket trainer John Gosden a powerful hand.
Mark Johnston is another top trainer with a strong entry. The Yorkshire based Scot could run three, English Summer, Queen Of Denmark and Gulf Of Naples. The last named is of particular interesting as he was improving fast at the end of last season and has only had five races in his life. He won staying handicaps at Doncaster and Newmarket in October on his last two starts and there should be plenty more to come from the grey son of Dubawi.
Robemaker is another John Gosden horse Free Racing Info is watching out for at Kempton on Saturday.
Robemaker is entered for the Betfred Goals Galore Qualifier 2.05pm. He was quite progressive last term and was being aimed at the Lincoln as connections are convinced there is a big pot in the four-year-old.
The Betfred “When Both Teams Score” Fillies Stakes 3.45pm looks best left to Dreamwriter who was so impressive when making a winning debut at Newbury last year. Richard Hannon’s filly disappointed in her two subsequent starts last year but there were mitigating circumstances. She remains a filly of considerable potential and first time out could be the time to catch her.
Clive Brittain has a good record at Kempton Easter meeting and the Newmarket veteran’s Teofilo colt Miblish, who won first time out as a juvenile, could go well in the Betred “Double Delight” Stakes 4.20pm.
Charlie Longsdon’s Grandads Horse makes a good deal of appeal in the Better Prices On Betfair Mobile Novices Handicap Hurdle 4.05pm at Haydock Park. The gelding is 1lb lower than when running very well to come home sixth at Cheltenham last time.
Brian Ellison’s Union Island is the one to be on in the Betfair, Don’t Settle For Less, Handicap Hurdle 2.55pm at the Lancashire track. The six-year-old won nicely at Market Rasen last time from a bang-in-form Royal Entourage, who was on a four-timer, and he’s only been put up 5lb.
The FreeRacing.info tips and stakes for Saturday 7th April.
2.05pm Kempton Park – Robemaker – 2 points each-way
2.55pm Haydock – Union Island – 2 points win
3.15pm Kempton Park – Gulf Of Naples – 3 points each-way
3.45pm Kempton Park – Dreamwriter – 2 points each-way
4.05pm Haydock – Grandads Horse – 2 points win
4.20pm Kempton Park – Miblish – 2 points win
Tips and preview for Saturday 31st March
Posted on March 27, 2012The Dubai World Cup on Saturday
The William Hill Lincoln and the Dubai World Cup on Saturday ensure the focus this weekend is on Flat racing.
Smart Falcon, who’s virtually unbeatable in Japan, is fancied to prove he’s a global force in the Dubai World Cup Sponsored by Emirates Ailine 6.40pm at Meydan on Saturday.
Ken Kozaki’s seven-year-old has won his last nine races and 19 in all from his 26 starts in the land of the rising sun. Smart Falcon‘s biggest rivals are expected to be Aidan O’Brien‘s ex-Australian superstar So You Think (left) and leading American trainer Bob Baffert‘s Game On Dude, who was second in the Breeders’ Cup Classic last year.
Top Irish jockey Johnny Murtagh has good prospects a big race double at Meydan on Saturday with the very speedy Edward Lynam-trained Sole Power in the Al Quoz Sprint 4.00pm and William Haggas‘ unbeaten Beaten Up in the Sheema Classic Presented by Longines 6.00pm.
The first leg of the Spring Double, the William Hill Lincoln Handicap 3.15pm at Doncaster on Saturday, marks the start of the new British turf Flat season. Although favourites have a surprisingly good record, it’s the kind of race to have more than one horse on your side in because the draw can be of major importance.
There’s a good chance that Marco Botti’s Cocozza, who’s very unexposed with just five starts so far, could be well handicapped. The four-year-old ran with credit against Group class performers in Ireland last year and his new trainer has been very happy with what he’s been doing on the gallops at Newmarket recently.
John Gosden has taken Robemaker out of the Lincoln so William Haggas’ 2,000 Guineas fifth Fury, who has been gelding since losing his way last term, becomes the back-up to Cocozza.
Free Racing Info suggests combing Lincoln hopes Fury and Cocozza with Grand National possibles Organisedconfusion and Neptunes Collonges in 4 each-way Spring Double bets.
The William Hill IPhone App Cammidge Trophy 2.40pm at Doncaster on Saturday has a history of shock winners but Dean Ivory Sirius Prospect, who developed in a very smart sprinter last term and Chris Walls’ reliable speedster Royal Rock are the two to concentrate on. Free Racing Info is a big fan of Sirius Prospect, who has the potential to be a Group class performer this season, but Royal Rock is well worth a saver. The eight-year-old has a good record on his seasonal bow and Wall won the Winter Derby with another of his old stalwarts, Premio Loco, last Saturday.
Despite his big weight, Kyllachy Star should go well in the consolation race for the horses that didn’t make the Lincoln cut, the William Hill Spring Mile 2.05pm. Richard Fahey’s six-year-old almost won the Irish Lincoln on his reappearance last year off a higher mark.
The Free Racing Info tips and stakes for Saturday March 31st.
2.05 Doncaster – Kyllachy Star – 1 point each-way
2.40 Doncaster – Sirius Prospect – 2 points win
2.40 Doncaster – Royal Rock – 1 point win
3.15 Doncaster – Cocozza – 2 points win
3.15 Doncaster – Fury – 2 points win
4.00 Meydan – Sole Power – 1 points win
6.00 Meydan – Beaten Up – 1 point win
6.40 Meydan – Smart Falcon – 2 points win
